Here’s a breakdown of the updated car seat regulations every parent and driver needs to know:
All children under 2 years old must ride in a rear-facing car seat.
The only exception: if your child exceeds 40 lbs in weight or 40 inches in height as per car seat manufacturer guidelines.
Children between ages 5 and 8 must continue using a booster seat.
Booster use is required until the vehicle's seat belt fits correctly—typically when the child is at least 4 feet 9 inches tall.
All professional chauffeurs—including limousine and black car drivers—must be certified in:
Proper car seat installation
Child passenger safety procedures
Understanding which seat type suits each age and size
No certification = not allowed to transport children.
All passengers under the age of 13 must ride in the back seat at all times.
